This rattan cane webbing is completely unbleached and untreated — retaining the rattan’s full natural reddish-brown color exactly as it comes from the plant. Unlike the pale honey tan of standard rattan webbing roll products, this material has a warm, deep reddish-brown tone with rich organic variation. Lighter amber strands sit alongside deeper reddish-brown ones, creating a surface that is visually alive in a way that uniform natural rattan webbing cannot replicate.

This unbleached rattan colorway is rare in the US market. Most rattan cane sold domestically is processed to a uniform honey-tan. If you need webbing that pairs with walnut, teak, or dark-stained oak — or want genuine organic character — this is the variety for you. Natural color variation is a defining characteristic, not a defect.

The square radio weave features a clean 1×1 interlaced grid — horizontal and vertical strands crossing at right angles with no diagonals.

All of our rattan cane webbing is handwoven by skilled artisans in Vietnam — not machine-produced.

Why Is It Called Radio Weave?

The open square lattice gets its nickname from its widespread use in vintage radio cabinet grilles. Today it remains one of the most versatile patterns of rattan cane webbing for chair restoration, cabinet panels, headboards, and room dividers.

Installation Tips

  • Soak in warm water 60 minutes to 3 hours before installation — makes the rattan pliable and reduces cracking
  • Spline-channel method: press dampened webbing into the routed groove, seat the spline, allow to dry under tension
  • Staple/tack method: apply light tension while attaching, allow to dry flat
  • Cut with sharp scissors or a craft knife against a straight edge

  • Headboard panelling and bed frame inlays
