About Our Shell Inlay Craft
Capiz shell — harvested from windowpane oysters off the coast of Vietnam — is cut, shaped, and placed piece by piece by hand into a natural lacquer base. The result is an iridescent surface that shifts with the light in a way no manufactured material can replicate. Every piece is unique. The rattan rim on our round sets is handwoven using traditional Vietnamese techniques; our square sets feature a wooden rim with shell inlay along the border for a cleaner, more contemporary profile.

Mother of pearl (nacre) technically refers to the iridescent inner lining of pearl oysters, while capiz shell comes from the windowpane oyster — a different species more widely used in decorative inlay work.
